History of Greencastle Cemetery

Greencastle Cemetery, located at 2045 Nicholas Rd. in Dayton, Ohio, is a historic resting place that has served the community for generations. With a rich heritage dating back to 1839, it includes the Old Greencastle Cemetery, which is one of Dayton’s oldest burial grounds. Old Greencastle is renowned for its connection to the United Brethren Church, and it holds the remains of some of the city’s earliest settlers and veterans, including soldiers from the World Wars and the Civil War.

Welcome to Greencastle Cemetery, where we are honored to provide a serene and dignified resting place for your loved ones. Our mission is to serve families with compassion and respect, ensuring their memories are preserved with care.

Dear Community Members,

We hope this message finds you well. As the new stewards of Greencastle Cemetery, we want to address some important matters regarding the resting places of your loved ones.

Due to poor record-keeping and the absence of markers, locating loved ones has been a challenge. We are committed to righting these past wrongs by renaming sections and creating a detailed database for easier access. This project will begin in the spring, and in the meantime, we are only offering plots in the newly created Germantown Gardens section. We will also wait for the ground to settle before placing foundations and headstones.

We understand your frustrations and ask for your patience as we work to restore the integrity of the cemetery. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Sincerely,

Greencastle Cemetery
